THE LIST

I was having a bit of a ‘bro talk’ with one of my good mates the other day, and he asked me if I had a list of what I looked for in a girl? Bit of a dumb question I thought, because I can tell you now, every single guy on the planet has an “adjectives list” (also known as a ‘wish list’) of what they want. (Apart from Adam, he didn’t really have a choice when he met Eve).

But guys have many lists throughout life, from the ‘to do’ list (and I’m not talking about ‘pick up milk’) to a list of the greatest pick up lines that have ever been written.

I remember back when I was in year two(I was a pretty nerdy looking kid, my hairstyle was a cross between Ray Martin and a Lego man), but I remember having a mental list of top girls in my class to sit next to. Belinda Lowe, because she was the only girl in the class with connecter pens, then there was Kimberley Hewitt who always gave her best friends a Fredo Frog every day (thinking back now, I’m guessing Kimberley was an only child, like come on, what kind of parent gives their daughter a packet of Fredos 5 days a week?) Then there was the most popular girl in the class, Shannon Martin. Shannon used to tell everyone that she was related to the family from the hit 90’s TV show ‘Around the Twist’. She would tell stories about how she used to visit them at the lighthouse on weekends and the crazy adventures they got up to. (I’m pretty sure Shannon is a used car salesman now)

These days, many girls just think all guys just want a flirty, blonde cheerleader or a thin Barbie lookalike (which is true, I would go a Pure Blonde Beer and a BBQ any day) but really, this can be a quite large misconception!

However, there will always be the guys who would answer the question “What are the top things on your list?” like this:
“Ummm, I dunno mate, I fink I only ave free fings on me list, they gotta be skinny, gotta ave a killer set of cans and maybe be too slutty, yeah?”

As much as I wish I could say it was true, every guy isn’t perfect; a lot of guys out there are as shallow as a kiddies paddle pool, but it’s these guys who are walking around asking themselves “Why don’t I have a girlfriend?”

I have heard girls out there say things like ‘Guys are like parking spots, all the good ones are taken and the rest are handicapped’ and, ‘Guys are like roses. You’ve got to watch out for the pricks!’.

But not all guys are jerks, a lot of them aren’t just after that one thing, (however, there are a lot of guys who would like to borrow your hair straightener and skinny leg jeans). The guys you meet at clubs aren’t always the guys you want to date, I have never read in the wedding section of the paper, “It was love at first sight when our eyes met each other one night at Candys Apartment in Kings Cross”.

Over the last few weeks, I have actually done some in-depth research into this… so in the Style of Bert’s Family Feud, I surveyed about 20 guys on the question “What do you look for in a girl”, and the top 10 answers are:

1. Great personality
2. Trustworthy and honest
3. Doesn’t put herself Down
4. Someone who can take a joke
5. Spontaneous
6. Wears less make up then a clown
7. Independent
8. That is shorter than me

However, in my opinion, You just have to be confident in who you are. Don’t worry about what guys want, just be yourself and eventually the right guy will come along and realise just how special you are )
